Been wanting one for a while but never did due to money being a little limited. Someone just offered me one for £10 though so I jumped on it. Not sure which model but even if it’s a base one it’s a good deal. So I wanted to ask which tools you guys would reccomend for it, apparently it only has a few basic worn tools with it so I’ll have to pick some up.

I got the cordless one, it’s great, lithium ion battery. I can crawl in places with it. When I had some small spots in the datsun to do I found it very convenient.

I discussed this with my wallet and he said I can’t into all of the tools.

I have one that I use on occasion. I mostly use the cut off wheels. I’ve used the sanding drums to smooth out some rough edges on a few things too.

It's funny, I used the one I borrowed more than the one I bought because I kept borrowing one.

This one is corded but will still be a good addition to my tool kit. Guna be doing some rust removal on a friends car soon so it’ll be useful for that.

I’ll definitely be getting some sanding drums. I’ve never actually used one before they just seem useful.

I’d get a basic kit for like $20 for now. You can also surf Ebay/Amazon for certain bits you want. I have some glass cutting bits I use I ordered online.

Once you get used to the tool, the speed and your desired design then I’d go nuts with getting different items or attachments.

I presume you need this for rust removal. So, you probably mainly want wire wheels and the little sandpaper disks. The hard fiber-reinforced cutting wheels are useful, but only for things like removing screws and damaged fasteners. Between these three, you have basically every normal thing you’ll want to do with a Dremel.

Get a cheap (off brand even) kit with a bunch of different accessories, see which ones you end up using. Probably cutoffs and flap wheels.

Gotta be careful not to go all out when using them. Start off slow and increase speed as needed. Let the drum do the work. Press too hard and you'll gouge it.

I had a look at the kits but was worried about the quality being poor given how cheap they are. Did you have any issues with yours?

The general shittiness of the car I’m working on means it’s good for practicing. Doesn’t matter too much if I gouge it haha.

Thanks. Yeah mostly rust removal and general automotive stuff. It would be handy to be able to cut off rusted clips and bolts etc.

Cool. I also just got a free dremel from my ex she was giving back some stuff of mine and said I should take her dremel as well, which was nice of her.

This. A kit will save you tons of money and will be worth it for the cutting discs alone.

Nice, I’m guessing it was a fairly amicable break up if she was giving you free stuff haha.

Some are straight from a sweat shop in China...but others seem to be fantastic. Depending on the speed you put the tool on, your grinders/sand paper pieces won’t last long (That is why half of the kits you see are sand paper pieces). I had a wire brush that totally came apart while I was doing some basic cleaning on a low setting.

I have some bits I got on ebay I think I could drill through an engine block with, though they were a bit pricey.

No break up is easy we were engaged so to lose it hurt a lot to lose, but now I think we both are at peace with what happened.

I also got some camping equipment so I really did do well haha.

I think I’ll just do as you and a couple others have suggested and get the cheap stuff first then spend more for the stuff I’ll use a lot.

Strangely I’ve never been through a break up, but I can’t imagine even the most civil break up is the nicest experience.

All of them. The ones that I use the most are the cut off wheels. The reinforced ones.

I think I’ll start with a cheap complete kit then upgrade with quality stuff over time like a few have suggested.

Cutoff wheels and sanding drums

You’ll gouge out the drum - it’s basically sandpaper wrapped around a rubber core, so it’s easy to cut through the drum, especially on thing sheet metal, etc.
